Character Mask

For my drawing class, we had to make a paper bag into a character. I decided to make a character that would be a bit monster-like; sort of like a creature that you would find lurking in your closet or hiding under your bed. I created my mask using a paper bag with red, black, and white paint, red ribbon, and tape covering the cut out pupils of the eyes. After creating the bag, we had to take a photo of the character in its environment. Here's what I came up with.

Recognizing Light

For this assignment, I had to take photos during 6 different times of day to experiment with the different types of lighting throughout the day. I chose to do mostly natural subject matter and I tried to use a variety of angles and colors to create interesting compositions. I took 2 photos for each of the 6 times of day. This was for my Lens-based Communication class.

3 Layer Laser Cutting

This is an assignment for my drawing class that I've just completed today. We took photos of different objects to transfer into Adobe Illustrator and make a 3 layer laser cut piece out of. The colors used were white, black, and grey. I decided to do a stuffed giraffe from this picture.

From the picture, I had to simplify it into a design with only the 3 colors mentioned above. Here's what my giraffe looked like after I designed the illustrator document.

Then left the actual laser cutting part which was mainly done by the teacher from Print Services. The back layer doesn't need to be cut because the laser cutter is a subtractive device. My bottom layer was grey. The middle layer cuts out both the middle layer pieces and the top layer pieces. My middle layer was black. The top layer cuts out everything so that it can show both colors of pieces below it. My top layer was white. Here are the photos of how the 3 pieces fit together.

Overall, I thought this was a very interesting project!
