Experimental Sound

So this is actually the second project I had in my documentary and experimental video class, but I wanted to make some changes to the first project before I posted it so here we go out of order. For this project, we had to find a segment of audio and then design an experimental video around it. I found a really great interview with Louis Armstrong to use and this is what I came up with. I think it turned out pretty cool.

Set Photos

This semester I am in producing, which means that I produced someone's film from the other half of our class that is in project. I produced a film called Dancing Diana, written and directed by Joshua Jordan. I was also 1st AD on a film called Antiques and 2nd AD on a film called Brains as well as production design/swing on a film called Bromeliads. I got all sorts of photos on the sets this semester, here are some of them!

Next semester I'll be on double the sets... I'm gonna die (but it's going to be a great death).

Doppelganger Costume

For costume design, we had to do a design of a doppelganger character. Essentially, we had to do two designs; a before and an after when they go through some sort of transformation. The main character in my upcoming junior project is a washed up magician, so I decided to do a before and after of him. I did a poster design for him when he was in his prime and then his actual costume design for the film. I plan on using the poster for production design in his dressing room.

No-Budget Horror

In costume design, we ended up spending a class period geared more towards the film majors! We set up horror scenes for posters for a visiting artist that does low-budget horror films, Alix Taylor. We used things that we had from the production design and costume department and created scenes based on that. It was really fun to do a horror photo shoot, here are some of the images I took:

Redesigning Rapunzel

...Hey there friends. So it's been about three months and the semester is over next week lol woops. I've been extremely busy this semester, but it's been a lot of fun! I'm have a few days off for break now so prepare to be bombarded with everything I've done this whole semester. The first project that I had for my costume design class was to redesign a fairy tale in a new style. I decided to do Rapunzel (the Grimm version) and make it Gothic Victorian. I did costume designs for three of the characters, Rapunzel, the Enchantress, and the Prince. Here are my preliminary sketches:

And my final result!
Rapunzel
Enchantress
Prince
Overall, I really liked how these turned out! I was going to go back in and edit them, but I never had time- maybe in the future.

Dorms, Living, and Advice

Oh shoot and I also filmed this like 2 months ago, which is basically just passing on my extremely limited knowledge about living in the dorms and stuff. I would compare it to an infomercial in which Guy Tang talks about time shares. Are you sold yet?

Junior Project Development

Hello friends and welcome to junior year, a magical place full of looming deadlines, panic, and chaos. So classes started this week on Monday and I've just finished my first week of junior year *halfhearted noise maker* Junior year in film is a time of enormous growth and equally massive levels of stress (or so I've heard). Each semester, half of the junior class shoots their projects and half produces them. This semester, I'll be producing so I've arguably got it slightly easier (except I'm the one that has to deal with budget so maybe not)? We're also writing our thesis projects now as well. In the midst of all this chaos, I think I'm meant to be attempting to also plan my junior project for next semester. Now luckily we wrote our scripts last year, but I have a lot of work to do as far as visual development, costuming, production design, etc. So today as I was feeling unusually productive, I put together some reference for the style of my film. I thought it might be interesting to show some of the thought that goes in to a film in pre-production, so here's some of my inspiration.

That's all for now folks, tune in next time for more thrilling developments.

Final Directing Project

This was actually from last semester and I never finished editing it until now, yay! So here it is. It also ended up winning best sophomore film in the Ringling film awards which is really cool! Big thanks to a great crew and actors.

Diptych and Triptych Photography

The final photography assignment in Art and Science of Color was triptych and diptych photography. I came up with quite a few and I think this assignment was a really good way to start thinking about sequencing photography rather than just taking one. Made you think more of how the photos go together and what sort of story they tell.

Sophomore Year at Ringling College

Here's a video talking about my sophomore year at Ringling College of Art and Design. It goes through all the classes I had specifically and what I thought about them.

Sophomore Reel

Here's a reel of all my best stuff that I've made up to this point!

Cosplay the Documentary Trailer

Another project I've been working on as an editor and camera operator is Cosplay The Documentary. I've finished the trailer recently and was able to release it. The film follows six people with varying skill sets and cosplay experience as they collaborate as a group to complete a series of cosplays from League of Legends and compete at a convention.

Final DSLR Film

Here's my final for my cinematography class! I was the director of photography for my friend Johanna's film in the directing class. The film is based on a scene from the play This is Our Youth by Kenneth Lonergan.

Color Correction

For the sixth project in cinematography, I had to color correct one of the sequences that I had done previously in the semester. Here's side by side the original image, the color corrected image, and finally the graded image.
