The production design for my film, Maddock the Magnificent, was extensive. We had to make some giant stage props for Maddock's show. We made a giant moon, stars, and some old fashioned flowers. We started with a cardboard base and built it up a bit more on the back so it was sturdy. We then put paper-mache over the parts where there were seams and painted on top.
I also needed to age a deck of cards and some paper, so one night I did an extensive tea bath session. I sanded all the playing cards and then soaked them in black tea. I also folded and crumpled some paper and soaked it in tea as well.

On the paper, I did a bunch of sorta technical/scientific looking sketches of different types of flowers which turned out pretty cool!
Next, we had to make a giant stage prop hat that could fall around someone standing inside. We started again with a cardboard base for the brim. The top of the hat consisted of two hula hoops- one at the top and one at the bottom with fabric holding them together.

Then we started putting together the room, which we did two days before the shoot. It was crazy because we started with essentially a completely blank room, so there was lots to do!

Overall, it was a super fun project and I really enjoyed bringing the film to life!
